Abstract

The article maps the development of juvenile crime in Slovakia over the past decade and assesses the effectiveness of school prevention programmes.

1. The development of juvenile delinquency

The share of juveniles in total crime has been falling over the long term and reached 3.1 % in 2025. Its character, however, is changing: the share of cyberbullying and offences committed online is growing.

2. Prevention programmes

An assessment of 18 school prevention programmes showed that the most effective are long term programmes that develop social skills, while one off lectures have no measurable effect.
